A 500th Post GIVEAWAY! :)

Howdy, reader friends!  Believe it or not, this is my 500th post here at The Well-Read Redhead.  Yes, you've listened to me jibber-jabber THAT much in 3.5 years!  Congratulations!  :)

This epic milestone happens to coincide with me thinning out my at-home bookshelves (again...I swear these books just keep multiplying like bunnies!!).  So, rather than donating my books to the library (my usual M.O.), I decided to save them for a lil giveaway for my lovely blog readers.

I had quite the nice little pile going, so I randomly split the books in to two batches. Voila: we can have TWO winners!  Winner #1 gets 6 books, Winner #2 gets 5.  It's a smattering of everything...ARCs and finished copies, hardcover and paperback, used copies and unused copies.

    Oops, always read commenting instructions first...I'm just happy to see you posting about whatever is new and exciting for you. From my own recent reading, I've been rereading a lot of Ursula K. LeGuin and remembering how awesome she is. I also read The Eyre Affair and liked it more than I expected. And this month, I'm excited to focus on poetry and drama for the Reading New England challenge. I have a new collection by Vermont poet Leland Kinsey to review that is very worthwhile.     Because I've never read anything by Edna O'Brien and because I love to read Irish authors/Irish books, I wish you would read and review THE LITTLE RED CHAIRS by Edna O'Brien.

    My recent recommendations:

    The Guest Room by Bohjalian
    The Light in the Ruins by Bohjalian
    We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Fowler (recent because I just read it)
    Catification by Galaxy (nonfiction for cat lovers)
    In Wilderness by Thomas

    I have several other recommendations, but they are not recent. Let me know if you want them.

      Thanks for the recs! I will look into the O'Brien book. And I actually have The Light in the Ruins on my shelf at home, so hopefully I can get to that one soon.

    Perhaps you could ponder how a good author might self-publish and somehow distinguish himself/herself from the pack? I know there have been some runaway bestsellers that were first self-published, but I keep ending up with LibraryThing wins that have never even seen a editor!

    As for recommendation, I haven't read anything 5 star this year, although if you like classic detective fiction with a sense of humour, you could do far worse than the Dortmunder series by Donald E. Westlake.

      Thanks for the recommendation, as well as the post idea. I've talked a little bit about self-pub in the past and kind of shied away from them for a while...however, I know there are a lot of gems out there, so it's likely worth the effort for me to delve back in from time to time.
