Teaser Tuesday: The Goldfinch

I figure I've mentioned that I'm reading this book about 1,984 times, so I better give you a teaser as well.  I promise I'm about 72% done with it now so I might actually finish it sometime before my kids go to college.

Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.  Here's the rules:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
•  BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My Teasers:
“Putting your time in at the office; dutifully spawning your two point five; smiling politely at your retirement party; then chewing on your bedsheet and choking on your canned peaches at the nursing home.  It was better never to have been born--never to have wanted anything, never to have hoped for anything.”

This is part of a passage that I think is one of the most strikingly well-written of the entire novel.  I wish I could post the entire scene for you...BUT I GUESS YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO READ IT YOURSELF.

(Teaser Tuesday...you're doing it right.)

  1. I'm on the hold list for this at the library (roughly half a million people are in line before me), but I'm a little nervous about getting it from the library due to its length. I'm really going to have to push myself to get through this one in three weeks. But gah, the teaser, yes, yes, I do want to read this soon.

    1. It definitely will take dedication to finish it on time, but the story is SO worth it.

  2. I haven't taken the plunge on this one yet. It doesn't make sense, I can and have read big fat chunksters. I think the hype might be putting me off. I'm afraid I won't get it or like it.

    1. Hype almost ALWAYS puts me off books like this, but for some reason I went for it anyway...no regrets, it really is a great story.
