My First Book of 2016 Will Be...

Happy 2016, reader friends!!  May this year bring you health, happiness, and lots of excellent books to read.  :)

At the beginning of each year, Sheila at Book Journey asks everyone what their very first book of the year will be.  I've never really planned it out in years past, but after a very disappointing first book to kick off 2015, I decided it would be fun to make a more conscious reading choice to start 2016.  Put the right foot forward and all that!

With that in mind, my first book of 2016 is going to be...

Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff!

This book was chosen as the best book of 2015 by Amazon, and President Obama listed it as his favorite read of the year as well.  Plus, it's made quite the splash around the blog world.  While the reviews I've read are somewhat mixed, the description intrigues me and I'm willing to risk it for such a well-hyped novel.  (Check out the Goodreads description and reviews HERE.)

So, readers: what's your first book of 2016 going to be??  Choose wisely!!  :)

  1. I don't know! I ended 2015 with such a disappointment, though, so anything will be better than that.

    1. About 1/3 done and unsure where it's going, but thoroughly intrigued. Glad it was enjoyable for you!

  3. That is one that is hovering over my TBR stack. I am reading Take Me With You by Catherine Ryan Hyde. I have great expectations!

  4. I have always enjoyed choosing the 1st book, it can be so disappointing when it isn't a great book. I am intrigued with this one and have added it to my TBR list. I went with a favourite author and chose The Nightingale.

    1. Ah yes, I have that one on my TBR as well. Haven't read a lot of her work but enjoyed the one I did read a few years ago.

  5. I can't wait to see what you think of it. I was one of those that didn't love it, but after reading other reviews, I can see what it was that made lots of people like it.

    1. I can't wait to read your review when I'm done. This is definitely a book that seems to have a wide smattering of dissenting opinions.
