Happy Monday, readers! This weekend was a little nutty, as Small Fry was sick (Friday/Saturday), I had to work (Saturday), and the husband and I went to a wedding (Sunday). I need a weekend from my weekend!
Because of all the crazy, I didn't get a ton of reading in...but here's what I'm reading now:

MOMMY FICTION!! Oh mah gah, if there is a subgenre of women's fiction that I love most, it is certainly mommy fiction. I'm about 2/3 done with this one, and it's both funny and poignant. Can't wait to share my review with you later this week.

This is my current audiobook. It came highly recommended, and so far I am most definitely intrigued. I still have 6.5 discs to go, but I am loving the writing style (lyrical and almost ethereal at times). Having much better luck with this than the last few audios I've tried...
What's on tap next?
Probably either How Green Was My Valley by Richard Llewellyn (for the Around The World In 12 Books Challenge--Wales!) or At the Mercy of the Mountains by Peter Bronski (for this month's Keyword Challenge). Have you read either of these two? Any recommendations?

I hope you continue to enjoy The Tiger's Wife. I thought the writing was beautiful. At the same time I just didn't get it, lol. I think I was coming at it from the wrong place because I've read many great reviews of it.

Hope SF is feeling better today and hope even with the craziness you got to enjoy the wedding as a couple sans baby! ;) And my recommendation is you reading The Storyteller so we can talk about it! Only 50 pages in...but getting really really good.
ReplyJennifer, I fear that I might feel that way at the end. The more "supernatural" elements are coming to light, and I'm worried that I will be left feeling confused. But I love the writing so much, I'm really hoping it comes together for me!

I also didn't care for The Tiger's Wife, but it was because there was just too many different, barely related story lines going on. I hope you enjoy it though and I look forward to seeing what you think of it. I haven't read any of the books you mentioned for Wales - the one I picked I didn't love :-(

You should read the book I just finished, DARK PLACES, if you haven't already. It's by the author of GONE GIRL, Gillian Flynn, an earlier book. It has LOTS of references to redheads and red hair. The main character is a redhead, as are her mother and brother. But you should read it for more than that reason; this is a great book, and I don't know why I didn't hear about it when she wrote it. In many ways, I found it better than GONE GIRL.

ReplyJust FYI, I listened to the audio of How Green Was My Valley, and that was one of the worst reads I've ever had. I'm not sure how much of it was due to the narrator *who spoke in an accented monotone) and how much was the book itself, but ughhhhhh. Hope you have better luck with it than I did.
Tanya, what Wales book did you pick? I'm not sold on my choice but I didn't feel like there were a ton of good (non-faerie-ish) options.

Christina, I was afraid of that...I read the description and felt like it could go either way. I'll take a flip thru at the library before I commit.
