July 2014 in Review

Wow, I posted 3 times in the month of July.  Ouch!!  Ah well, you know my story these days, I won't repeat it.  But lots of fun is being had in the Redhead household this summer, and needless to say, I've been outside playing with the kiddos a lot more than I've been inside blogging!  We did a little family vacation last week, had several beach/pool days, many zoo/museum/park trips, and also celebrated Small Fry's 3rd birthday.
When did this happen?  Le sigh.
I've also continued my half marathon training...which is getting JUST A TAD more difficult as time goes on...but I'm impressed with myself!  I did a 7 miler yesterday, which is the longest I've run since 2008 (wowza).  Mileage is getting up there, but so far my knees haven't exploded, so I'm doing well.

Anyways, even though it was a light month, let's recap book activities in July...

In July I read 2 books:
Save Yourself by Kelly Braffet
The One and Only by Emily Giffin (review coming soon!)

I also jumped into the Six Degrees of Separation meme, which I would love to do again soon.  Anyone know what the August book is?

I know I said I was going to finish Gone With The Wind last month, but I'm still working on it!  About 200 pages to go.  I WILL finish it this month.  It's been worth the wait though, trust me.  Beyond that, I'm looking forward to finally getting a chance to read We Were Liars by E. Lockhart...I've heard so many amazing things about that book already!

What are you reading these days, friends??

  1. The summer is just not meant for blog posting - I'm convinced :-) I have no idea what August's book for 6 Degrees is going to be - but if it's something I haven't read, I tend to pick a book from the last chain of connection that I did.

    1. Ah, good idea! It's one of the better meme ideas I've seen lately. I'd like to participate even if I don't know anything about the chosen book.

  2. August book for #6degrees is Gone Girl! I'm stoked :). Also, it's awesome that you're out enjoying the summer with the little spuds. They're really cute, I'd do the same!

    1. Oh awesome! I'm going to have to start working on that post...

  3. I just finished re-reading A Discovery of Witches and I'm halfway through Shadow of Night before I dive into the last book in the trilogy.

Summer has been an on and off blogging time for me too. Except for a couple of pre-planned posts, I'm actually taking the entire month of August off. Life's just too crazy right now. Glad you guys are enjoying your summer!

    1. Glad you are enjoying the summer too! I find it so much easier to get posts done when I'm stuck inside in the winter. :)

  4. Good for you to spend time outside and with your family - there will always be time for blogging later. It's been a challenge for me to get blogging time in with all the kids home from school- thanks for the reminder to let it go and enjoy!
We Were Liars is waiting on my night stand! But first, I promised my 12 year old that I'd read The Book Thief so we could watch the movie together. I read I Am the Messenger (also by Zusak) in July, so I tell people I'm finishing a Zusak sandwich.
I read Gone Girl this spring and might have to try this 6 degrees meme...
Good to hear from you again! Good luck with the running (I've not run over 5 miles... ever!!!)

    1. I just finished We Were Liars, it was fantastic! How fun that you get to read The Book Thief along with your 12 yr old though. I look forward to those days down the road. :)

  5. I'm impressed that you're training for a half-marathon! I think I need to start C25K... :)

    1. I've heard good things about C25K! Great way to start running. Careful, you might make it a habit...haha. I never in the WORLD thought I would enjoy running when I was younger, now I get antsy if I can't go out for at least a short one every few days.

  6. I just read Larger Than Life, the novella by Jodi Picoult, that is the prequel to her new book Leaving Time. I just started The Art of Falling, by Kathryn Craft. I've only read a couple of pages but it is very good

    1. I just picked up that novella while it was free on Amazon. Looking forward to reading it before the new release! How did you like it?

  7. I love the birthday picture! I've been meaning to decide on a specific picture to take on each birthday, but I haven't figured it out yet!

    1. Yes, we just kind of did it by accident! I saw a picture on Pinterest of a kid sitting next to a "One" like that and did it for Small Fry's first birthday. Then we just kept doing it. I told DH he is in for it when he hits thirteen. Haha.
