Small Fry Saturday #13: SF's Christmas book haul!

Hey, if I can do my own Christmas book haul post, then Small Fry deserves one as well.  We are taking a break from our normal Small Fry review this week, and showing off what SF got from Santa in the book department this year.

My tiny sir has received:

Snuggle Puppy! by Sandra Boynton
My Dad Loves Me! by Marianne Richmond
Thomas Looks Up by Rev. W. Awdry and Billy Wrecks
The Cheerios Play Book by Lee Wade
Jingle All The Way by Tom Shay-Zapien
Press Here by Herve Tullet
The Duckling Gets A Cookie?! by Mo Willems
Beatrix Potter: The Complete Tales by Beatrix Potter
Sesame Street Starry Sky Songs by Publications International

We bought the books by Boynton, Richmond, and Willems for Small Fry, but we are so grateful to his grandparents and other family members for giving him the others as gifts!  This kid is going to need more book storage room soon (he is already taking over my bookshelves).

We've already given many of these a read, and I can't wait to share some of them in future Small Fry Saturdays.  Some of them are fun (Snuggle Puppy leads to some hilarious singing), others are awwww-worthy (My Dad Loves Me), and some are very interactive (Starry Sky Songs, Thomas Looks Up, etc)...so I have a whole range of things to review soon.

What books did your small fries receive this holiday season?

  1. I love Beatrix Potter! The size of the books are perfect and the illustrations are beautiful. Judging by the size of the Beatrix Potter book that you bought, I guess the illustrations are blown up?

Love Mo Willems books too! Knuffle Bunny was a cute read.

    Thomas the Tank Engine! :O

By the way, is the Cheerios play book the one that's interactive and the child can put Cheerios in the holes?

I know way too much about kid lit...

  2. Yes, the illustrations (and typeface) are pretty big. I think Small Fry will need to be a little older before he gets his hands on that one! :)
I have heard so many things about Mo Willems, this is our first one of his books. And yes, the Cheerios book has holes for kids to put in Cheerios...good thing my son loves those things!

  6. I always loved Beatrix Potter as a kid - I only had one myself, Jemima Puddleduck, but I loved that whole world. I - or rather, Hugh, doesn't have any of these, though he has 9 Boynton books so I'm thinking he doesn't need any more (huh, like I ever apply that rule to book acquisition!).

I've put up a post of most of the books Hugh got, with a couple left over because I plan on reviewing a few nursery rhyme books altogether. You can see his Christmas haul here.

  7. I didn't have any Potter stories as a kid, how sad is that? I can't wait to read them to SF. And I don't think you can ever have too many Boynton books. :)

  8. What a great stack of books!

I love Boynton's books. My daughter has quite a few on her shelves. :-) I bought her a couple Amelia Bedelia books recently--which I know she's not quite ready for, but I couldn't resist, her being one of my childhood favorites.

  9. Isn't it fun to pass on your favorites to your kids?? Unfortunately, I don't think my son will be very interested in The Babysitter's Club one day...sigh. lol.
